We say that cleanliness is the best policy. This saying tells us that both personal and public cleanliness is an integral aspect of our lives. But when we look at the public hygiene our country cleanliness is only a question mark. We throw litters in street, we never use public toilets and we never hope to keep any of the personal things clean and tidy. In countries like Singapore, littering is viewed as a crime Indian government should also try to take some serious measures for this issue. Spitting in public places should be penalized only then we can hope to see a clean environment in the future

Of late, chucking shoes appear to be the latest craze as a form of protest. The targeted victims for such shoe-throwing incidents are normally leaders, politicians or ministers. The trend of course was started by an attack on Ex-President George Bush by an Iraqi journalist named Muntadhar Al Zeidi. Everyone was surprised by the unusual and peculiar form of protest and expression of anger. The next on line to get targeted with shoe-throwing was the Chinese Prime Minister Mr. Wen. The Chinese Government was deeply outraged by the incident and conveyed their anger in clear-cut terms. Recently the Indian Home Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram also got subjected to a similar kind of shoe protest by a Sikh journalist. Looks like the demand for shoes will go up world over if such incidents increase.

An equilibrist is a performer who entertains people with balancing acts such a tightrope walking. An equilibrist dares to complete a walk from one high location to another (usually a high-raised building) on nothing, but a high tension rope or wire. The performer usually without any safety arrangements, equipped only with a balancing pole walks bravely on the tightrope. The motive of tightrope walkers is usually to set or break location specific records. A documentary on Philippe Petit from France, “Man on Wire” went on to win a Grand Jury Prize for World Cinema Documentary. Walking on the edge seems to be a part and parcel of life for such performers.

The Bishnois are a religious sect of Rajasthan. They hold all life forms sacred, particularly the Blackbuck. A Rajput Saint Jambeshwar Maharaj began the Bishnoi cult in the later years of the 15th century. The followers of Jambeshwar have to abide by 29 scared instructions – a fact reflected in the word Bishnoi which in Rajasthani means 29. Bishnoism lays stress on vegetarianism, respect for all living thing and not cutting trees. Bishnois number about 5 lakhs. They are mainly found in Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Delhi. The chief occupation of the Bishnois is agriculture and they hold the Khejadi tree in high esteem
