Linguistic Snobbery
There is no place in the world where snobbery is rampant as it is in India. The local language is never respected and people feel it is a shame to express themselves in their native language. This is particularly acute in places like Chennai where, in all the shopping malls and exclusive show rooms, people who speak in fluent English have been appointed to handle native language speakers. Perhaps it is not appropriate to ask about the SKODA car range in Tamil. Why should you be crazy over a foreign language and try to conceal that you are a native speaker.
