Understanding Dyslexia

A learning disability that makes an individual difficult to grasp the written word viz. letters, numbers, words, etc. is known as “dyslexia.” A dyslexic child appears to be normal in all other functions except that he finds it hard to cope with reading skills, writing skills, remembering spellings, and comprehending math. Since these are the skills based on which a student is graded, a dyslexic child is branded as a “non-performer’ at school. Dyslexics have difficulties in differentiating sounds. However this does not imply that a dyslexic is not sharp. They may be excellent in some other fields such as art and craft. Proper guidance, providing images through flash cards, computer-aided education, and repeated sounds can help dyslexics overcome the problem to a large extent.
